Support for local disaster and extreme weather resilience offices

This act aims to help communities prepare for extreme weather and other challenges. It allows local governments and Indian tribes to receive funds for establishing offices that will plan and implement actions to increase resilience to disasters, thereby improving citizens' safety and quality of life.
Key points
The act provides grants to states, territories, and Indian tribes for establishing or maintaining offices focused on disaster resilience.
These offices will develop plans to address environmental, economic, infrastructure, health, and housing threats, and coordinate aid efforts.
Priority for grants will be given to areas with the greatest need, including disadvantaged communities, with an emphasis on equitable distribution of benefits.
Funds can be used to support local efforts, including technical assistance and integrating resilience criteria into existing funding programs.
The program is authorized for $200 million annually from 2024 to 2029, with 10% reserved for Indian tribes.
