Strengthening Loan Forgiveness for Public Servants Act

This bill creates a new system for canceling federal student loans for individuals in public service, applying to loans taken out after the law is enacted. Borrowers receive incremental debt cancellation after completing 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 years of employment. Crucially, interest accrued during the years for which cancellation is granted and during application review will be canceled.
Key points
New incremental forgiveness structure: 100% of the loan can be canceled after 10 years of public service, distributed in stages (15%, 15%, 20%, 20%, 30%).
The benefit applies to Federal Direct Loans issued after the law's enactment date.
Loans are placed in deferment upon submission of an employment certification form, and interest accrued during cancellation years is canceled.
