Temporary Workers: Extended Stay and Disaster Flexibility

This bill modifies rules for temporary workers from U.S. territories, allowing them to stay longer in the United States without leaving. This provides more stability for these workers and their families, and offers flexibility during natural disasters.
Key points
Temporary workers can now apply for an additional permit if they have remained outside the U.S. for at least 30 days after their first renewal period.
The requirement to leave the U.S. is deferred until October 1, 2026, for all temporary workers.
The Secretary of Homeland Security can defer the departure requirement during presidentially declared major disasters or emergencies.
