Easier SNAP Access for Stores: New Eligibility Rules

This act changes the rules for food stores to participate in the SNAP food assistance program. It aims to make it easier for stores with past legal issues to join if they demonstrate rehabilitation. This could increase the number of stores accepting food benefits, potentially improving food access for SNAP recipients.
Key points
Stores will not be automatically denied SNAP authorization solely based on a criminal conviction.
Authorities will only consider criminal offenses from the past 5 years when reviewing applications.
Stores can be approved if they show sufficient mitigation or rehabilitation, such as a period of time elapsed since conviction or release from prison, and compliance with probation/parole terms.
New rules are to be issued within 180 days of the act's enactment.
