Michael Enzi Voluntary Protection Program: Enhanced workplace safety, fewer routine inspections.

This Act establishes the Michael Enzi Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) to encourage employers to implement comprehensive safety and health management systems. For citizens, this means potentially safer workplaces, as participating companies must actively assess and control hazards. Employers who meet these high standards will be exempt from routine inspections, incentivizing voluntary improvement in employee protection.
Key points
Enhanced Workplace Safety: The Program requires companies to implement systematic hazard assessment, prevention, and active participation of both management and employees in safety systems.
Exemption from Routine Inspections: Workplaces approved for the Program and meeting high safety standards are exempt from programmed (routine) inspections.
No Penalties During Evaluation Visits: Onsite evaluations conducted by the Department of Labor to assess VPP qualification cannot result in enforcement citations under the Occupational Safety and Health Act.
Voluntary and Free Participation: Employers are not required to pay any fees to qualify for or participate in the Voluntary Protection Program.
