Removing Short-Barreled Rifles from Federal Registration and Tax Requirements

This bill removes short-barreled rifles (SBRs) from the definition of firearms under the National Firearms Act (NFA), thereby eliminating federal tax and registration requirements for such weapons. Under the legislation, these rifles would be treated similarly to standard rifles. The bill also mandates the Attorney General to destroy existing federal registration records for these rifles within 365 days and preempts state laws that impose specific taxes or registration requirements on them.
