Higher Pay for Correctional Officers: Salary Adjustments

This act aims to increase the pay for certain Bureau of Prisons employees who currently receive lower locality pay rates. Their salaries will be based on rates from the nearest, higher-paying regions, potentially improving their financial situation and working conditions.
Key points
Correctional officers in the lowest-paying regions will have their pay calculated based on the nearest higher-paying locality.
If multiple higher-paying localities are within 200 miles, the highest comparability payment will be used.
The changes will take effect 180 days after the act is signed into law, allowing time for payroll system adjustments.
