Protection from Eviction and Foreclosure During Disasters

This act aims to protect residents from losing their homes during declared major disasters or emergencies. It introduces a temporary ban on evictions and foreclosures, and prevents rent increases in affected areas. This allows citizens to focus on rebuilding their lives after a disaster without the added worry of losing their housing.
Key points
Eviction Ban: Landlords cannot evict tenants from homes in disaster-affected areas for 120 days after a state of emergency is declared.
Foreclosure Protection: Lenders cannot foreclose on homes with mortgages in disaster-affected areas for 6 months.
No Rent Increases: Landlords cannot raise rent or charge additional fees for late payments during the moratorium period.
Right to Return: Tenants who temporarily relocated have the right to return to their dwellings without re-screening.
