Cable Transparency Act: Easier Contract Changes for Operators

This act changes the rules for cable service agreements, making it easier for operators to modify their offerings and requirements. Citizens might see changes in service availability or quality as operators gain more flexibility in contract terms. The law aims to adapt regulations to evolving technologies and market conditions.
Key points
Cable operators can more easily change or remove requirements in their agreements if they show good cause, such as conforming to law, technological changes, or commercial impracticality.
If local authorities do not respond to an operator's modification request within 120 days, the change is automatically approved, except for public, educational, or governmental access services.
Cable service agreements will now continue indefinitely unless revoked by the operator or local authorities for specific reasons, eliminating the need for renewals.
Local authorities can only revoke an agreement if the operator knowingly and willfully failed to meet a material requirement and did not fix it after being given an opportunity.
