Easier Access to Medicare Supplemental Insurance and Increased Transparency

This act aims to simplify access to Medicare supplemental insurance (Medigap) by prohibiting discrimination based on health status and age. It also introduces new rules for price transparency and broker commissions, and improves access to online information about insurance plans. This will make it easier for citizens to access necessary insurance and provide better tools for comparing offers.
Key points
No Discrimination: Medigap insurers will not be able to deny coverage or raise prices due to health status, claims experience, prior healthcare, or genetic information.
No Pre-existing Condition Exclusions: Medigap policies will not be able to exclude benefits based on pre-existing conditions or apply waiting periods.
Equal Pricing for All: Insurers will not be able to differentiate Medigap policy prices based on the age of the insured.
Enhanced Online Transparency: The Medicare Plan Finder website will include more information on provider networks, estimated out-of-pocket costs, and facilitate easier comparison and sorting of Medigap policy options.
Broker Transparency: Insurance companies will be required to disclose payments and other transfers of value made to agents and brokers selling Medigap policies.
