More Prescription Drug Plan Choices for Medicare-Only PACE Enrollees

This act allows individuals enrolled in Medicare-only PACE programs to choose a standalone prescription drug plan. This means they can select a drug plan outside of their PACE program's offering, potentially impacting their costs and access to medications. PACE programs will be required to inform and assist enrollees with this new option.
Key points
Medicare-only PACE enrollees can choose a standalone prescription drug plan starting January 1, 2025.
The chosen plan must have estimated out-of-pocket costs and federal subsidies equal to or less than the PACE program's drug plan.
PACE programs must provide information and assistance for choosing these plans, and monitor drug utilization and spending.
Enrollees can switch plans during the year if medications change or out-of-pocket costs unexpectedly increase.
