Support for Nursing Mothers in Airlines: New Rights for Crewmembers

The AIR PUMP Act aims to provide airline employees who are nursing mothers with the right to breaks for expressing breast milk and a suitable place to do so. This will enable mothers working as crewmembers to more easily balance their professional duties with motherhood, without fear of job loss or discrimination.
Key points
Airline employees who are nursing mothers will gain the right to breaks for expressing breast milk for one year after childbirth.
Airline employers must provide a private place, other than a bathroom, shielded from view and intrusion, for expressing breast milk.
The act protects employees from dismissal or discrimination for exercising these rights or reporting violations.
Breaks for expressing milk will not be required during critical phases of flight, and changes cannot impact flight safety or incur significant expense for the employer.
