SNAP Benefits Restricted: Ban on Soda, Candy, and Prepared Desserts

This Act changes the rules for the SNAP food assistance program, introducing restrictions on what recipients can purchase. Citizens using SNAP benefits will be explicitly prohibited from buying soft drinks, candy, ice cream, and prepared desserts. The government will instead create a list of approved foods designed to promote health and address nutritional deficiencies in the population.
Key points
SNAP funds can no longer be used to purchase soft drinks, candy, ice cream, or prepared desserts like cakes and cookies.
The Secretary of Agriculture must create a mandatory list of designated foods allowed under the program, focusing on nutritional value and low fat/sugar/salt content.
The designated food list must be reviewed and updated at least every five years based on the latest nutrition science.
