Improved Dental Care for Veterans with Diabetes and Heart Disease

This act introduces a pilot program to provide comprehensive dental care to veterans diagnosed with diabetes or heart disease. The aim is to improve their overall health and reduce long-term healthcare costs. The program will test new service delivery methods, including mobile clinics and teledentistry, to reach veterans in various locations.
Key points
Veterans with type 1 or type 2 diabetes and ischemic heart disease, who currently lack dental coverage, will receive comprehensive dental care.
The pilot program will run for four years at Department of Veterans Affairs facilities, including mobile clinics and using teledentistry, to reach rural areas.
A student loan repayment program will be implemented for dentists, dental hygienists, and oral surgeons to incentivize them to work for the Department of Veterans Affairs and ensure sufficient staffing.
The Department of Veterans Affairs will monitor the costs and benefits of the program, as well as its impact on veterans' health, well-being, and quality of life.
