Parental Healthcare Choice: New Flexibility for Children's Coverage

This act grants parents more flexibility in choosing the primary health insurance coverage for their newborn children, especially when both parents have separate policies. Parents can jointly decide which policy will cover the child's medical expenses first. These changes aim to simplify the insurance selection process and ensure children are adequately protected from birth.
Key points
Parents can choose which of their two separate insurance policies will be the primary coverage for a newborn child.
The decision for primary coverage must be submitted to the insurer within 60 days of the child's birth.
The chosen primary coverage will continue until parents jointly decide to change it or one parent loses their coverage.
The act applies to children born on or after January 1, 2022.
