Increased Accountability for University Leaders in Title IX Investigations

New rules require university presidents and board members to personally review serious incidents involving employees reported under Title IX. This aims to increase oversight and accountability in how such cases are handled, while protecting the identity of reporters. Citizens can expect greater transparency and fairness in university misconduct proceedings.
Key points
University presidents and at least one board member must personally review all reports of serious incidents involving employees, submitted to the Title IX coordinator.
This review includes factual findings, basis for conclusions, and imposed sanctions, but the identity of the reporting individual must remain confidential unless consent is given.
Universities will be required to annually certify that these reviews have been completed and that those conducting them did not interfere with investigations.
