End For-Profit Prisons: Government Control, Better Reintegration Support

This act phases out private federal prisons and community confinement facilities, transferring their management to the government. The goal is to improve conditions and ensure that individuals leaving prison receive better support for reintegration into society, potentially reducing reoffending rates.
Key points
Within 6 years, all core correctional services in federal prisons will be performed by government employees, not private companies.
Within 8 years, the government will not be able to contract with or maintain contracts with for-profit entities for community confinement facilities (halfway houses).
Prisoners released from federal custody will receive mandatory information and counseling on topics such as criminal record expungement, employment barrier removal programs, educational opportunities, and assistance with applying for social benefits and identification.
Regular inspections of facilities used by the U.S. Marshals Service are mandated to ensure all standards are met.
The government will conduct research on programs and policies that help individuals reintegrate into the community after release and reduce the risk of reoffending.
