Student Tutoring Support: New Programs and Funding
This act aims to improve academic achievement for elementary and secondary school students by funding tutoring programs. Citizens can expect increased access to high-quality educational support for their children, especially in areas where academic performance declined after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Key points
The federal government will award grants to State educational agencies to establish and operate tutoring programs in schools.
Tutoring programs must meet specific standards, such as a minimum of 30 minutes per session, three times a week, small group sizes (maximum 3 students per tutor), and a consistent tutor.
Priority for funding will be given to schools with a high number of eligible students and those that have experienced a significant decline in academic achievement.
An Advisory Board will be established to oversee program quality, provide support, and develop a nationwide tutoring workforce.
The act includes provisions for training programs for tutors, including teachers, paraprofessionals, and volunteers, as well as "Grow Your Own" programs to support local communities in developing tutors.
