Tax Credits for Employers Investing in Workforce Development and Training
This act introduces new tax credits for employers who partner with educational institutions to enhance student workforce development and for those investing in job training programs for their employees. The goal is to encourage companies to actively participate in educating future workforces and upskilling current employees, potentially leading to better job opportunities and higher incomes for citizens.
Key points
Businesses can receive a tax credit of up to $5,000 for partnering with colleges, technical schools, and higher education institutions to develop curriculum, provide instruction, or offer internships.
Employers can also get a tax credit of up to $5,000 per employee for expenses related to qualified job training programs, including apprenticeships.
If an employee for whom a training credit was claimed is terminated before two years, the employer may have to repay a portion of the credit, encouraging long-term employment.
