Tax Relief for Workers: Deducting Union Dues and Unreimbursed Job Expenses.

This law makes it easier for workers to lower their taxable income by deducting work-related expenses. It creates a new, simplified deduction for union dues and related expenses, which can be claimed without itemizing. Additionally, employees can once again deduct other unreimbursed job expenses, such as travel or equipment costs, as an itemized deduction.
Key points
Union dues and expenses can be deducted directly from income (above-the-line), simplifying the process of reducing taxable income.
The ability to deduct all unreimbursed employee business expenses (e.g., tools, travel) as an itemized deduction is reinstated.
These tax changes apply retroactively to tax years beginning after December 31, 2022.
