Equal treatment for wild and captive-bred animals in species protection.

New rules change how endangered animals are protected. From now on, animals bred by humans will be treated the same as those living in the wild. This aims to facilitate the use of breeding for species conservation efforts, potentially impacting construction and development projects that require mitigation measures.
Key points
Captive-bred animals will have the same protected status as wild animals.
Animal breeding can now be officially used to mitigate negative impacts on endangered species, for example, in development projects.
These changes apply to all species, regardless of when they were listed as endangered.
