Military PFAS Ban: Phased Purchase Prohibition

This act introduces a phased ban on the Department of Defense's acquisition of products containing harmful PFAS substances, such as non-stick coatings and stain-resistant materials. The goal is to protect military personnel's health and the environment by removing these chemicals from daily use in military facilities.
Key points
Starting April 1, 2023, the military is prohibited from acquiring non-stick cookware and upholstered furniture containing PFOS/PFOA.
From April 1, 2025, the ban expands to a broader list of PFAS substances and items, including food packaging, cleaning products, and certain clothing.
The Department of Defense must regularly report on its progress in eliminating these substances from its purchases.
