Equal Treatment for Public Servants' Pensions

This bill aims to change how retirement benefits are calculated for individuals who have worked in both public service (without Social Security contributions) and the private sector (with contributions). It introduces new rules to ensure fairer treatment for these individuals and provides additional payments for some current retirees. The changes are set to take effect from January 1, 2025.
Key points
Replaces the current Windfall Elimination Provision with a new formula to equalize benefits for individuals with non-covered employment.
Introduces an additional monthly payment of $100 for certain current retirees whose benefits were previously reduced.
Requires reporting of non-covered earnings on Social Security account statements to improve transparency.
Mandates a study on partnering with state and local pension systems to improve the collection and sharing of information on non-covered pensions.
