PFAS-Free Firefighting Program for Airports

This act aims to establish a program to help U.S. airports eliminate harmful chemicals (PFAS) used in firefighting foams. Through this program, airports will receive financial support to acquire safer alternatives, dispose of old substances, and replace equipment. This will contribute to improving environmental safety and public health around airports.
Key points
Airports will receive funds to purchase new, safe firefighting foams that do not contain harmful PFAS substances.
The program will cover the costs of disposing of old, contaminated firefighting foams and cleaning or replacing firefighting equipment.
Smaller airports will receive additional grants to replace aircraft rescue and firefighting vehicles.
The government will cover 100% of eligible costs related to transitioning to new, safe firefighting agents.
