Schedules That Work Act: More Control and Predictability for Employees

This act aims to give employees more control over their work schedules, allowing them to request changes without fear of retaliation. It also requires employers in certain sectors to provide more predictable and stable schedules, helping to balance work and personal life and improve financial stability.
Key points
Right to request schedule changes: Employees can ask for changes in hours, work times, location, or notice, and employers must consider these requests.
Protection against retaliation: Employers cannot penalize employees for requesting work schedule changes.
Predictable schedules for specific sectors: Employers in retail, food service, cleaning, hospitality, and warehousing must provide schedules 14 days in advance and pay extra for last-minute changes.
Right to rest between shifts: Employees can decline shifts scheduled less than 11 hours after a previous one, unless they consent and receive higher pay.
Additional pay for split shifts: Employees in covered sectors will receive an extra hour of pay for each day they work a split shift (with a break longer than one hour).
