Increased Transparency and Local Hiring in Military Contracts
This act aims to increase transparency in military spending, especially in construction projects. It introduces new rules for publishing information about bids and subcontractors, and promotes the hiring of local workers and small businesses. This will give citizens better insight into how taxpayer money is spent, and local communities can gain more jobs.
Key points
More information about military contracts will be publicly available, including data on subcontractors and their locations.
Companies that hire at least 51% of their employees from the local area (within a 60-mile radius or the same state) will receive preference in military bids.
Small businesses that are subcontractors in military projects and operate locally will receive double credit towards public procurement goals.
All subcontracting solicitations valued at $250,000 or more must be publicly published, increasing competition and transparency.
