Veteran Family Support: Coordinators and Assistance Programs

This act aims to improve support for families of veterans with significant disabilities. It introduces family coordinators at medical facilities and establishes a Family Support Program, offering a wide range of services from educational assistance to psychological support. This is intended to facilitate access to necessary resources and improve the quality of life for veteran families.
Key points
Each Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) medical center will appoint a family coordinator to assess the needs of veteran families and connect them with appropriate supportive services.
A Family Support Program will be established to provide services for veterans with disabilities (70% or more), their children (under 18), and other family members, including educational, mental health, and career readiness assistance.
The VA will conduct regular surveys of disabled veterans and their families to better understand their needs and tailor the support offered.
Information on available supportive services for service members and their families will be included in the Department of Defense's Transition Assistance Program.
Programs and activities receiving funds under this act are prohibited from discriminating based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender, disability status, or age.
