Easier Hiring: Experience Over Degree

New rules aim to make it easier for individuals without a university degree to find employment if they have relevant experience. Companies using computerized hiring systems will need to consider years of experience, including military service or vocational training, as equivalent to a higher education degree. This is intended to increase employment opportunities for those with practical skills.
Key points
Companies using computerized hiring must disclose required experience and treat it equally to a degree if the candidate has sufficient practical years.
Experience can include military service, community college, training programs, and some college.
Employers can apply for an exemption if a degree is essential for a specific job, but must clearly communicate this requirement.
Small businesses with fewer than 500 employees are exempt from these requirements.
