Flight Training Program for Veterans: New Pilot Career Opportunities

The "Wings for Veterans Act" establishes a pilot program to help military veterans gain pilot qualifications. Through grants to flight schools, veterans will be able to obtain pilot certificates for free or at a reduced cost, opening the door to careers in civil aviation. The program aims to support veterans in finding employment and utilizing their potential after service.
Key points
Veterans with an honorable discharge and an intent to pursue a commercial pilot career may receive free flight training.
The program offers grants up to $500,000 to a maximum of 10 flight schools, covering tuition, materials, and administrative costs.
Training includes private pilot, commercial pilot, flight instructor certificates, and instrument and multiengine ratings.
The program is a pilot initiative and will last 18 months from its establishment date, with a final report to Congress.
