Northern Mariana Islands: Expanding Family Social Programs Access

This act extends federal social assistance programs, such as temporary assistance for needy families, to the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. This means residents there will gain access to financial support and services previously available only in other U.S. states and territories, potentially improving their financial well-being and access to child care.
Key points
The Northern Mariana Islands will receive a fixed annual grant for programs assisting needy families.
Work participation requirements and time limits for receiving aid will apply, similar to other regions.
A one-time grant of $5 million is provided to establish a child support enforcement program in the Northern Mariana Islands.
Residents of the Northern Mariana Islands will gain access to federal foster care and adoption support programs.
