Easier Access to Audiology Services under Medicare Program

This act aims to improve access to audiology services for individuals covered by Medicare. Starting in 2025, patients will be able to receive these services directly from an audiologist without a physician's referral, potentially reducing costs and wait times for care.
Key points
Effective January 1, 2025, Medicare will cover audiology services furnished directly by qualified audiologists.
Patients will not require a physician's referral or supervision to access audiology services under Medicare.
The act specifies that Medicare will pay 80% of the lesser of the actual charge or the fee schedule amount, meaning patients will be responsible for the remaining 20%.
