Flight Safety Study: New Rules for Regional Aircraft

This bill requires the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to conduct a study on allowing newer regional aircraft to operate under commercial passenger rules. The goal is to assess the impact on safety and potential benefits for small communities facing limited air service. The study's findings could influence flight availability and travel costs in certain regions.
Key points
The FAA will study if newer aircraft (post-2017) with 10-19 seats, certified under specific rules, can safely operate on commercial passenger routes.
The study will consider safety, the needs of small communities, and compare older (pre-1995) with newer aircraft.
The study group will include aviation industry representatives, safety experts, and representatives from communities affected by reduced air service.
A report on the study will be submitted to Congress within one year, potentially leading to changes in aviation regulations.
