PFAS Ban in Cosmetics: Safer Products for Consumers

This new law aims to eliminate harmful PFAS substances from cosmetics, meaning that from 2025, personal care and makeup products will be safer for health. Consumers can expect that the cosmetics they purchase will not contain intentionally added chemicals from this group, reducing potential health risks associated with their long-term use.
Key points
Starting January 1, 2025, manufacturers will be prohibited from intentionally adding PFAS substances to cosmetics sold in the U.S.
The act defines PFAS as man-made fluorinated organic chemicals with at least one fully fluorinated carbon atom, intentionally added or as breakdown products.
The goal is to protect public health by removing potentially harmful chemicals from everyday products.
