Reduced Aircraft Noise: New Priorities for Safety and Community Comfort

This act changes how the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) prioritizes airspace use. In addition to flight safety, the FAA must now also focus on minimizing aviation noise and other negative health impacts on residents and the environment. This means residents near airports may experience a reduction in disturbances related to air traffic.
Key points
Flight safety remains the FAA's primary priority.
Minimizing aviation noise and its health impact on residents becomes a secondary, equally important priority.
The FAA has 12 months to adjust its regulations and procedures to reflect these new priorities.
