Airlines to Face Limits on Excessive Fees: New Rules for Passengers

This act aims to curb high fees charged by airlines for reservation changes, baggage, or seat selection. Fees will now need to be proportional to the airline's actual costs, potentially leading to lower prices for travelers. Additionally, parents with children aged 13 or younger will be able to sit together without extra charges.
Key points
Airlines will be prohibited from imposing fees that are unreasonable or disproportionate to their incurred costs.
This applies to fees for flight changes or cancellations, checked or carry-on baggage, and seat selection.
Parents traveling with children aged 13 or younger will be guaranteed to sit with their children at no extra charge.
The U.S. Department of Transportation will establish detailed standards and update them at least every 3 years.
