Ban on Styrofoam Food Containers and Packaging Fillers

Starting in 2026, the sale and distribution of Styrofoam food containers, packaging fillers, and coolers will be prohibited in the U.S. This aims to reduce waste and protect the environment. Businesses failing to comply with the new rules may face fines.
Key points
From January 1, 2026, it will be illegal to buy or sell Styrofoam dishes, cups, plates, or takeout containers.
The ban also includes Styrofoam packaging peanuts and portable coolers made of Styrofoam.
Businesses violating the ban will first receive a warning, followed by escalating fines for repeated offenses.
