SNAP Program Changes: Out-of-State Spending Control and Store Owner Restrictions.

This act introduces new rules for using EBT cards in the SNAP program, aiming to prevent misuse. Citizens receiving these benefits should be aware that prolonged out-of-state purchases may lead to account suspension, and store owners will not be able to redeem SNAP benefits at their own establishments. These changes may affect how beneficiaries manage their benefits and where they make purchases.
Key points
SNAP Account Suspension: If all EBT card transactions are made exclusively out-of-state for more than 60 days, the account will be suspended unless the beneficiary provides proof of continued residency in that state.
Restrictions for Store Owners: Individuals who own retail food stores or wholesale food concerns will not be allowed to redeem SNAP benefits at their own stores. Exceptions apply to stores owned by publicly owned corporations or the government.
Effective Date: The changes will take effect one year after the act's enactment.
