Easier Identification of Unidentified Human Remains

This new law expands the use of federal funds for identifying unidentified human remains, regardless of whether the death was determined to be a homicide. This means more resources will be available to resolve missing persons cases and identify victims, potentially bringing closure to families and helping to solve cold cases.
Key points
Funds from Jennifer’s Law can now be used to identify any unidentified remains, not just those linked to homicides.
Department of Justice grants for forensic genetic genealogy can also be used by states and local governments to identify unidentified remains, regardless of the manner of death.
