Protecting Landline Phone Numbers After Natural Disasters

This act protects your landline phone number after a natural disaster declaration, preventing its reassignment. This ensures you can keep your number even if you have to leave your home, and also avoids cancellation and reconnection fees if your residence becomes inaccessible.
Key points
Your landline phone number will not be changed or reassigned to someone else after a natural disaster, unless you request it.
If your home is inaccessible or uninhabitable after a disaster, you can cancel service without fees and reconnect the same number at a new location without activation charges.
The number reassignment ban lasts for one year after a disaster declaration and can be extended for another year at your request.
