Extended Foster Care Support for Youth Up to Age 21

This act aims to expand support for youth in foster care, allowing them to remain under state care until age 21, and in some cases up to age 22. Additionally, individuals who left foster care after turning 18 will be able to voluntarily re-enter. These changes are intended to improve young people's chances for education, employment, and financial stability, reducing the risk of homelessness and legal issues.
Key points
Youth in foster care can remain under care until age 21 (or 22, depending on state election), regardless of parental income.
Individuals who left foster care after age 18 can voluntarily re-enter to receive continued support.
States will receive guidance and technical assistance to effectively reach youth eligible for new services and workforce development programs.
