Immigrant Visas: New Chance for Those Affected by Bans and COVID-19

The "Keeping Our Promise Act" offers a second chance to individuals selected for the Diversity Visa lottery who were unable to receive a visa or enter the U.S. due to previous presidential travel bans or the COVID-19 pandemic. This law allows thousands of eligible individuals to reapply for a visa, directly impacting their life plans and ability to settle in the United States.
Key points
Individuals denied visas or admission due to travel bans (e.g., "Muslim Ban") from 2017-2020 can reapply for a visa.
Those unable to attend visa interviews or enter the U.S. due to the COVID-19 pandemic also get a new opportunity.
The State Department will notify eligible individuals and publish application procedures within 90 days of the act's enactment.
Visas will be available for those selected in fiscal years 2017-2022, with age calculated from the original selection date to protect children from "aging out."
