New Certification Rules for Women-Owned Small Businesses in Federal Contracts

This Act changes how women-owned small businesses (WOSBs) qualify for federal contracts. To be counted towards government contracting goals, WOSBs will now require formal certification, moving away from self-certification. A grace period is provided for currently self-certified businesses that apply for formal certification before the new rules take effect, allowing them to continue to be counted.
Key points
Women-owned small businesses must obtain formal certification to be counted towards federal contracting goals.
Self-certification will no longer be sufficient for WOSBs to be included in government contracting targets.
A grace period allows currently self-certified WOSBs to count towards goals if they apply for formal certification before the new rules are fully implemented.
The aim is to enhance integrity and expand opportunities for genuinely certified women-owned businesses in federal programs.
