Increased Pharmacy Choice for Medicare Beneficiaries

This bill aims to ensure Medicare beneficiaries have more choices when selecting pharmacies. It means more pharmacies will be able to join prescription drug plans, potentially improving access to necessary medications and fostering competition. These changes are set to take effect from 2028, with standards for pharmacy contracts to be established beforehand.
Key points
Any pharmacy meeting standard contract terms will be allowed to participate as a network pharmacy in Medicare prescription drug plans.
Starting in 2028, contract terms between plans and pharmacies must be reasonable and relevant, based on new standards.
The Secretary will establish these standards by April 2027, after gathering input on current practices and pharmacy costs.
