This Act establishes a dedicated fund within the Department of Agriculture to finance research and activities aimed at mitigating the negative effects of the invasive Spotted Wing Drosophila. This pest, originating from East Asia, causes significant damage to valuable fruit crops like raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, peaches, plums, and cherries. The authorization of $6.5 million annually for five years is intended to fund these research and mitigation efforts.
