Permanent Medicare Coverage for Type II Diabetes Prevention Programs.

This law permanently adds Type II diabetes prevention programs to covered Medicare benefits (Part B), effective January 1, 2025. This ensures that seniors and other eligible individuals at risk of diabetes gain access to CDC-approved behavioral change sessions at little or no cost. The goal is to improve public health outcomes and delay or prevent the onset of Type II diabetes.
Key points
Medicare Part B must cover diabetes prevention services for eligible beneficiaries starting January 1, 2025.
The services are structured behavioral change sessions following a curriculum approved by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Eligible individuals can enroll in the prevention program without any lifetime limit on participation.
Program suppliers must be recognized by the CDC and meet new administrative requirements to provide services under Medicare.
