Correction of Retirement Benefits for Customs and Border Protection Officers

This act aims to correct the unfair denial of enhanced retirement benefits to certain U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers. It ensures that individuals hired within a specific timeframe will receive their rightful benefits, potentially improving their financial situation in retirement. It also seeks to ensure fairer hiring practices in the future.
Key points
Customs and Border Protection Officers who received a job offer before July 6, 2008, and started duty after that date, will receive enhanced retirement benefits.
These individuals will be entitled to a minimum annuity amount and an exemption from mandatory retirement.
The Department of Homeland Security will create a list of eligible individuals, notify them of corrections, and provide information to the Office of Personnel Management for benefit disbursement, including retroactive adjustments.
The Government Accountability Office will review CBP hiring practices to prevent similar issues in the future.
