Expanded Family Leave: Care for Loved Ones and Parental Involvement

This act broadens family leave rights, allowing employees to care for a wider range of loved ones, including domestic partners, in-laws, adult children, and other individuals with close family-like bonds. It also introduces a new type of leave for children's and grandchildren's educational activities and routine family medical care, providing citizens with greater flexibility in managing their work and personal lives.
Key points
Expanded definition of family for leave eligibility: includes domestic partners, in-laws, adult children, grandparents, grandchildren, siblings, uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, and any other individual with a close family-like association, regardless of biological or legal relationship.
Introduction of new parental involvement and family wellness leave: up to 24 hours annually (maximum 4 hours in any 30-day period) for participating in children's and grandchildren's school or extracurricular activities, routine medical and dental appointments for oneself or family, and caring for elderly individuals.
Option to substitute paid leave: Employees can substitute accrued paid vacation, personal, or family leave for the new leave, and sick leave for medical care, without additional employer restrictions.
