Support for Mental Health Professionals Training at Minority-Serving Institutions

This Act aims to increase the number and quality of mental health professional training programs at minority-serving institutions. This will provide citizens, especially those in underserved areas, with easier access to psychological and psychiatric care, as well as services delivered in a culturally competent and trauma-informed manner.
Key points
Minority-serving institutions (e.g., Historically Black Colleges, Tribal Colleges) will receive grants to establish or expand graduate programs for mental health professionals.
Students in mental health graduate programs at these institutions may receive scholarships or stipends of $10,000 per year, helping to cover their attendance costs.
Training programs will focus on preparing professionals to provide culturally responsive and trauma-informed care, especially in high-need areas.
The Act seeks to diversify the mental health workforce, potentially improving the quality of care for various community groups.
