Expanded Healthcare Access for Reserve Components through VA

This act aims to provide healthcare access, including mental health services, to members of the Armed Forces reserve components who are not covered by TRICARE Prime. This means thousands of reservists who previously lacked full healthcare access will now be able to receive support from the Department of Veterans Affairs. The changes are designed to improve the quality of life and health security for these individuals.
Key points
Members of the Armed Forces reserve components not covered by TRICARE Prime will gain access to hospital and medical care, including mental health services, provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
The Department of Veterans Affairs will gradually enroll all reservists into the patient enrollment system, starting with uninsured members by the end of 2023 and others by the end of 2024.
New reserve members will be automatically enrolled in the patient enrollment system upon joining the reserve components.
A study will be conducted to evaluate options for improving healthcare access for reservists, with a report submitted to Congress within 180 days of the act's enactment.
