Additional Leave for Parents and Grandparents for Children's Educational Activities.
This bill introduces additional leave for employees to participate in their children's and grandchildren's educational and extracurricular activities. It provides greater flexibility for parents and grandparents to engage in their dependents' school life, potentially improving their development and academic performance. Employees gain a new right to short absences from work for important educational events.
Key points
Employees can take up to 8 hours of leave within any 30-day period and up to 48 hours within any 12-month period for school or community organization activities involving their children or grandchildren.
This leave is in addition to existing leave entitlements and can be taken intermittently or on a reduced schedule.
Employers may require the substitution of accrued paid leave (e.g., vacation, personal, sick leave) for this purpose, but cannot impose more stringent conditions than those set forth in the Act.
Employees must provide at least 7 days' notice to their employer before taking this leave, or as much notice as practicable.
